Information collected
Depending on how you use the site, JCL may process your name, email address, username, password hash, affiliation, country, ORCID iD, biography, roles, submissions, reviews, editorial correspondence, decisions, uploaded files, declared interests, funding and ethics information, IP address, browser and device information, access logs, and aggregate usage statistics.
Purposes and legal bases
Information is used to provide journal services, administer accounts, evaluate and publish submissions, preserve the integrity of the scholarly record, secure the service, investigate misuse, meet legal obligations, and pursue the legitimate interests of scholarly communication. Contractual necessity applies where processing is required to provide a requested journal service. Legitimate interests apply to peer review, security, research integrity, and service improvement. Legal obligation applies where records must be retained or disclosed by law. Where consent is the appropriate basis, it may be withdrawn subject to obligations to preserve the editorial and publication record.
Sharing and processors
Information is shared only as necessary with assigned editors, reviewers, journal staff, authors, infrastructure and email providers, DOI and preservation services, indexing services, and other processors acting for the journal. Public article metadata may include author names, affiliations, ORCID iDs, contributions, funding, competing interests, and other publication information. JCL does not sell personal information.
Cookies and logs
The site currently uses essential cookies and equivalent storage for authentication, security, CSRF protection, language preferences, and session continuity. The OJSSID session cookie is secure, HTTP-only, and SameSite=Lax. Server logs record items such as IP address, requested URL, timestamp, response status, browser, and referring page for security and operations. No advertising cookies are configured. Non-essential analytics or tracking will not be introduced without updating this notice and obtaining any consent required by law.
Retention
- Published articles, public metadata, DOI records, correction notices, and the core editorial audit trail may be retained permanently to protect the scholarly record.
- Submission, review, and decision records for unpublished work are normally retained for seven years after the final decision, unless a longer period is required for an investigation, legal claim, or research-integrity purpose.
- Account profiles are retained while an account is active and may be deleted or anonymized after seven years of inactivity when they are no longer connected to a record that must be preserved.
- Routine security and access logs are normally retained for up to twelve months unless needed longer to investigate abuse or comply with law.
- Infrastructure backups rotate on provider-managed schedules and are overwritten in the ordinary course of operations.
Security
JCL uses encrypted transport, access controls, role-based permissions, backups, security headers, software updates, and operational monitoring. No online service can guarantee absolute security. Suspected privacy or security incidents should be reported promptly to the journal contacts.
Your choices and rights
You may request access to or correction of your account information and, where applicable, deletion, restriction, objection, or portability. Some information cannot be removed when it is necessary to preserve published work, peer-review integrity, legal claims, security records, or audit trails. Account details can be updated through the user profile. Requests will be acknowledged promptly and ordinarily answered within 30 days, subject to identity verification and applicable law.
International processing
Journal participants and service providers may be located in different countries. Appropriate contractual, organizational, and technical safeguards will be used where required.
